Scientific Activities - Brocher

The aim of scientific activities

The Brocher Foundation's mission is to be a dynamic platform for exchange on the health challenges of the 21st century. It focuses on the impact of new medical developments on society. It is a bridge between the scientific world, IGOs, NGOs and citizens. The Domaine Brocher is located just a few minutes from Geneva International Airport, in a splendid 3-hectare lakeside park.

The Brocher Foundation is recognized for its promotion of multidisciplinary research into the ethical, legal and social issues (ELSI) raised by new medical developments and healthcare policies.

The Brocher Foundation is a Swiss private law foundation created by Mr. and Mrs. Brocher. In accordance with the founder's wishes, its main purpose is to welcome researchers from all over the world to work and hold meetings.

All these activities give rise to scientific publications. In particular, scientific articles serve as the basis for national and international conventions and laws.

Stays

The Brocher Foundation welcomes researchers from all over the world for residencies of 1 to 2 months, to write a book, articles, essays and/or a doctoral thesis in an exceptional, peaceful environment that stimulates concentration.

Everything is done to ensure that junior and senior researchers staying at the same time develop a scientific network as well as a network with experts from international organizations based in Geneva (WHO, WTO, WIPO, UNHCR, ILO, ICRC, MSF...).

Since its inauguration in 2007, the Brocher Foundation has welcomed 50 researchers every year.

The rigorous selection process carried out by the Scientific Committee enables numerous experts to take part in high-quality workshops and keep abreast of ELSI's international news on medical development and healthcare policy.

The Foundation provides the Researchers with accommodation and work space on its magnificent estate.
A few days after their arrival, the Researchers have the pleasure of presenting their respective research projects to each other at a one-day workshop held in the Foundation's auditorium. This day, and the evening meals taken together, encourage conviviality and informal exchanges between the Researchers.

At the end of their stay, the researchers submit a scientific report to the Foundation.
