BATIR: Bioethics Acting Towards Interdisciplinary Research / Incidental Findings in Genetic Research and Clinical Diagnostic Tests

Introduction :

  • BATIR: Bioethics Acting Towards Interdisciplinary Research

This project generally aims to elucidate the characteristics and dynamics of interdisciplinary research in a theoretical and analytical way at the time of the Brocher stay, and later on based on empirical data, head-on by using bioethics as a case study and to provide scientifically sound benchmarks for the future assessment of interdisciplinary research. The specific project aims are – To explore the bioethics field as a paradigm example of interdisciplinarity in order to reflect more broadly on the characteristics of interdisciplinary research. – To develop the methodology for establishing and testing benchmarks for successful interdisciplinary research in bioethics so as to propose benchmarks to be probed for other areas of interdisciplinarity. The precise objectives of the stay in Brocher foundation are – to produce 3 articles that will be the foundation of such an ambitious project. – to work out methodologies for international comparisons in interdisciplinarity research.

  • Incidental Findings in Genetic Research and Clinical Diagnostic

Tests The objectives are: • To explore the attitudes of clinicians, research ethics committee members, researchers and members of the general public towards managing IF • To determine the current provision and approach taken regarding management and disclosure of IF within the context of research ethics committees, genomic researchers and clinical care • To ascertain needs for training and support of clinical and/or research staff who may deal with IF • To determine the needs of members of the general public in terms of information about and communication of IF in the pre and post-test periods • To produce three sets of guidelines pertaining to management and disclosure of IF in relation to genetic testing in a clinical setting, for the use of research ethics committees and for genomic researchers.
