Introduction:
Oral disease are a neglected area of global health, despite being among the most common ailments of mankind. Following the publication of a ground-breaking series of papers on oral health in The Lancet in July 2019, a Lancet Commission on Global Oral Health will be established to deepen the analysis of the reasons for neglect and to make comprehensive recommendations for health system reform and integration of oral health care in Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The project proposes to host a meeting of the Lancet Commission on Global Oral Health at the Brocher Foundation. The meeting is intended to facilitate discussions and to focus on a rights-based approach to oral health; and to develop a roadmap for integration of oral health care in national UHC reforms. A scientific publication is envisaged as well as integration of the workshop results in the final Commission report, which will be published again in The Lancet. The ultimate goal is to promote oral health and access to oral health care as part of the basic human right to health.
