Computable Guidelines & Machine Learning for Health Services

Introduction:

As a leading organization for health norms and standards, WHO has the mandate to convene relevant stakeholders to establish digital content to accompany and facilitate operational deployment of evidence-based clinical and public health guidelines. To date, WHO has yet to establish an approach for simultaneously releasing Guideline recommendations with derivative digital content for patient-level software-based information systems.  The proposed Brocher Foundation workshop would provide an opportunity to collate diffuse efforts and distill learnings to inform the development of a systematic process and an operational strategy for future WHO “computable guidelines”. Using case examples from antenatal care, this meeting will facilitate the development of methods and processes that will ultimately make possible routine digital software augmented by machine-learning that delivers improved health system quality, coverage, and accountability.
